Social Networking

Social networking has become a major problem for many people today. Social networking is a time consuming chore that many people are composed to do. I find social networking a time wasting device that is dumbing down the American youth. There are many social networking sites online today like Twitter, Face book, MySpace, and blogging. Each has several hundred million followers that will go online several times a day to check there mall or update their status. It is quite easy to connect to one of these sites just by typing in the name http://www.facebook.com/ or going to Google that will give several hundred sites. Online social networking has also affected many of to days youths grades and GPA average. Because they would rather spend all night online messaging there friend or updating the status and not studying for their major exams that would be coming up.
Social networking also has an upside to it. Social networking can allow people to find old friends and meet new ones. Social networking sites will allow people to message between themselves instead of using expensive texts and phone calls between each other. This can also lead to stockers, rapist, and identity theft. Social networking is a place for cyber bullies and pedophiles that will abuse the social networking sites for their personal amusements or devious deeds. That is why I believe all social networking sites should be careful watched by the government and also by the children parents.

  1. I like your blog on social networking and agree that it can or has dumbed down American youth. I have heard young people refer to people they met on facebook as fiends..people they dont even know. Its easy to be anyone you want when you sit behind a computer screen with no real life interaction. I hate to see technology taking the place of real life socilization and interation.

  2. Yes, social networking is time consuming, but if you use it the right way it can be useful. I hate to see the people that put on their walls, "out with my friends at blah blah" because people know you're not at home and thats not safe! Be smart about it.

  4. Interesting and I have a similar outlook. If I know someone, I would much rather call them. I like how this blog explained the time wasting affect that social networking has on our lives. One has to think, "Does the world really care to know what I ate for dinner last night?" or more importantly, "Is this productive or even fun?"

  5. I completely agree. There are too many dangers involving social networking and the fact that people add others whom they do not know.

  7. I agree with fact about "dumbing down youths". I think that there should still be a form of social interaction so that they could practice person interaction.
